Labor Day Weekend

This past Labor Day weekend I was able to go to my sister's new house in California to help her unpack and get settled. My friend Jessica was able to come with me so that the drive would not be so bad. We left Friday night after work and drove all the way through to Victorville to my sister’s house. We got a late start so we didn't get to in until about 3:30am California time. This means we were each up almost 24 hours straight. The drive to St George was pretty brutal because we were in traffic a good portion of the way because of the late start. After St. George we still had 5 hours left. We stopped to get gas and some food at Jack in the box (it's a treat for us because they are not in SLC). The drive through guy was pretty rude to Jessica (it was now her turn to drive) and she was so funny back to him saying one time "Gosh, your not very nice being were your customers." I was laughing hard but kept telling Jess to keep it quite or we were going to end up with some stuff in our food we didn't order. After we got our food we were on our way. Going through Vegas is always pretty and we enjoyed the rest of the trip.

The funny thing about finally getting to my sisters house is she sister had only been in the house a week, and really hadn't had the time to put lights in all the bedrooms or hallway. Plus she was down in San Diego for the night for Shaun's birthday, meaning we would have to enter a strange house with no lights. We knew she left us the key, so we each got our flashlights out and looked for the key under the mat. I also knew she had her alarm system armed, which she told me I had 30 seconds to get to and enter the code and disarm before it went off. As I braced myself to open the door I told Jess, okay I have to run to the right diagonally to bet to the keypad. I opened the door (luckily the kitchen light was on, so it was not completely dark), started to run towards the beeping keypad, I somehow missed the step "UP" into the house and started doing that running falling bit. I thought to myself, "I better not biff it because then the alarm will go off!!!" Luckily I was able to compose myself to not trip and made it to the keypad slightly right and diagonal of the front door and with one try I successfully put in the now memorized code and it was off. Jess & I took a celebratory picture with Gabe once in the house with all our stuff to mark the end of the first part of our trip.

Yup, I brought Gabe with me. He likes the car drive, but ended up peeing on Jessica three times in the first 2 hours. After that, we went in his crate, which was better for all of us. He could play with his toys, eat and sleep as much as we wanted. We stayed up talking for about 2o minutes yelling across the house from our bedrooms with our sudden burst of energy, but finally went to sleep about 4am. My mom got to the house first Saturday morning and we just kinda sat there waiting for Heather to get back from San Diego. When she did get home, we all went to work. Staring in the baby room, and cleaning up the kitchen and the living room. Jessica was such a great help!! We are so thankful she came so graciously!!

Saturday night we went to Heather's church, and out to dinner. Heather and Shaun wanted to thank Jess for all her help so they took us to a restaurant Jess had only been to once before. We had a good time at church and hanging out with them. It was good to see my sister, Shaun and of course baby Jo!! Jo is getting so big, she is growing so much and has changed so much since I saw her 2 months ago. She can hold her head up, and is already teething (I know unbelievable) she also is staring to do some baby push ups! She wasn't feeling good that weekend, so Auntie Beckie got a handful (maybe a little bit more) of baby throw up on her.

My grandma and Uncle David came up to Heather's house on Sunday to see baby Jo and of course me (her favorite grand kid......in Utah) for breakfast. It was really nice seeing my grandma, the time I spend with her is always precious time. Shaun's birthday was also Sunday and his mom and dad were hosting a BBQ at their house. I was thankful for the party because I got to see my Dad, Auntie Carolyn, cousin Crystal and one of my best friends Diana! It's so hard to try and see all my family and friends when I go for such short visit so I was glad they all came to me. Of course they had another reason to be there, so that meant the 45 minute - 2 hour drive was worth it for them depending on where they were coming from. After the BBQ was over my mom offered to babysit Jo, and Heather, Shaun, Diana, Jess and I all went to go see House Bunny. All weekend I had been saying things in my deep voice imitating the preview of the movie when they introduce themselves to the house bunny, so seeing the movie was fun for all.

The weekend was over too fast, and Monday came so soon!! Jess and I left after breakfast to get home at a decent hour. We stopped again in St. George this time at In-n-out Burger, another must stop. The weather was warm but windy like Victorville so we sat outside to eat. After that we just got in the car and continued our journey. We had lots of fun talking and singing to music. I even read aloud from the Twilight series I had told Jess all about on the way down. Below are some pictures from the trip.
